My Grandma's Simple Hedge Fund

The search for alpha usually leads to complicated strategies.

But how many hedge funds do you see with 10 year track records?

Few stand the test of time.

My grandma would go to her local TD Bank branch and spend the afternoon tormenting the manager for more interest on her bonds.

Even at thanksgiving dinner she would grill my dad if we she was getting the best rate she could. No time or stress was wasted on the stock market. No panics, no crashes.

Bank bonds and other low risk assets are already among the most efficient sources of return. She edged out an extra half percentage point on every roll over. Getting a 3.5% coupon up to 4% leads to an extra 20% return after 20 years. Who knew a little old lady could generate so much alpha!

Complication is not a requirement for successful investing.
